My niece is in town and today when we were at Sprouts´ Farmers Market we saw that Van Leeuwen had a few vegan ice creams on sale so we just HAD to try one. We chose the Strawberry flavored one. It isn’t just vegan, it’s also gluten-free! (If you can eat gluten-free oats.) My niece usually eats diary ice cream and almost never eats vegan ice cream so she vas very exited to try the Van Leeuwen Strawberry ice cream, made with oat milk.
Van Leeuwen Strawberry is supposed to taste like strawberries, and it does. Although it doesn’t taste like FRESH strawberries, it tastes like dried strawberries. Even though it tastes like dried strawberries it was very good, no funny aftertaste and just the right amount of sweetness.
At first sight I was kind of surprised by the brownish color. It was nothing like the strong pink color you would imagine a strawberry flavored ice cream to look like. However I honestly think this is a great thing, as when you look at ingredients list you will see there’s no weird color additives. This in my opinion makes the ice cream even better.
Texture was nice, it was very creamy and lean. Exactly how you want the texture of your ice cream to be. My niece thought it tasted just like regular dairy ice cream, might even better.
The ingredients list of the Van Leeuwen Strawberry is amazing! Nothing strange, just what’s needed. I love that there’s no chemicals or preservatives. I bought it at Sprouts´ Farmers Market where it was on sale so I got it at a great price. However as of today, the pricing is at $12 which I think is too expensive for 14 oz of ice cream.
Overall it was very nice ice cream, it felt pretty luxurious and it’s even approved by niece who’s not vegan.
